This camera app is designed with a strong emphasis on privacy and security, providing a range of features for capturing images, videos, and scanning QR/barcodes. Additionally, it offers various modes based on CameraX vendor extensions, including Portrait, HDR, Night, Face Retouch, and Auto, which are available on compatible devices.

The different modes are conveniently displayed as tabs at the bottom of the screen, allowing effortless switching between them through the tab interface or by simply swiping left or right. To access the settings panel, there is an arrow button at the top that can be easily closed by tapping outside of the panel. Swiping down opens the settings, while swiping up closes them. In modes other than QR scanning, a row of large buttons is located above the tab bar. From left to right, these buttons enable switching between cameras, capturing images or initiating/stopping video recordings, and opening the gallery.

A notable feature of this app is its in-app gallery and video player, providing a seamless experience for managing and viewing images and videos captured within the app itself. It currently supports opening an external editor activity for editing actions.

For devices with wide angle and telephoto cameras, zooming can be achieved through pinch-to-zoom gestures or via a zoom slider. This functionality is currently supported on Pixels and certain other compatible devices, with plans to expand support in the future.

The app incorporates automatic continuous auto focus, auto exposure, and auto white balance across the entire scene by default. Tapping on the screen to focus will switch to auto focus, auto exposure, and auto white balance based on the tapped location. The focus timeout setting determines how long it takes for these settings to revert to their default state. The exposure compensation slider on the left allows manual adjustments to exposure, automatically adjusting shutter speed, aperture, and ISO accordingly. Further configuration options will be introduced in future updates.

In the QR scanning mode, the app narrows down the scanning area to a designated square on the screen. The QR code should align with the edges of this square and can have any 90-degree orientation. Non-standard inverted QR codes are fully supported. The app boasts a rapid and high-quality QR scanner capable of effortlessly scanning densely-packed QR codes from Pixels. Every 2 seconds, the app refreshes auto focus, auto exposure, and auto white balance within the scanning square. Users can zoom in and out while scanning and toggle the torch using a button at the bottom center. Additionally, they can choose to enable scanning for all supported barcode types through the auto toggle at the bottom left or manually select specific types via the top menu. By default, the app exclusively scans QR codes due to their efficiency and reliability, as other barcode types may yield false positives, especially with dense QR codes that can be challenging to scan.

The app requires camera permission as its sole requirement. Images and videos are stored using the Media Store API, eliminating the need for media/storage permissions. The microphone permission is only necessary for video recording if audio inclusion is enabled. Location permission is solely required when enabling location tagging, an experimental feature.

By default, captured images have EXIF metadata stripped except for orientation data. Although metadata stripping is not yet supported for videos, orientation data is still included to ensure proper display, as it does not qualify as hidden metadata and is fully visible in how the image is presented. Users can enable or disable stripping of EXIF metadata through the More Settings menu accessed from the settings dialog. Disabling this feature will retain additional metadata such as timestamps, phone models, exposure configurations, etc. Location tagging is disabled by default and will not be stripped if enabled.
